I was delighted to be contacted by Mrs. Debbie Lewis from University Hospitals of Cleveland. Some time back, Debbie and I had worked on a ceramic tile mural at her daughter's elementary school. She invited me to create a glass tile mosaic for the new Horticultural Therapy Suite at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, part of University Hospital of Cleveland. The project was most significant because the suite was designed to be used by young patients and their families, to be involved in planting, transplanting and pruning living plants. The facility is on the ninth (top) floor of the hospital, just indoors from the popular Angie's Garden, which allows horticultural therapist Kristina Arthur to offer programs year around. The project, including the mosaic, was generously funded by a national association of credit unions. Titled "The Four Seasons of Healing" the mosaic represents the life cycle of all living things.
Melissa Fliegel and Julie Minor from Van Auken Akins Architects served as project architect and interior designer for the Horticultural Therapy Suite. Mosaic installation by Larry Guthrie of Absolute Tile of Westlake OH
